Chapter 11

Freya

I don’t know how it happened, but I’ve been staying with Luca and the Three Stooges for a few days now. Okay, so I do know how it happened. Luca has me dick drunk and the dogs are too freaking cute and cuddly to leave for more than a few hours at a time. My life is perfect. And it’s terrifying as shit.

Luca is making me rethink everything I’ve ever wanted out of life, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. I want to trust it, but what if it all falls apart? I’ve never been as invested in another person as I am with Luca. Aside from Leena, of course, but this is different.

Good thing she got back from her honeymoon yesterday. I need some “girl talk” as Luca likes to call it. I can’t help the cheesy smile that spreads across my face when I think about the early days when I first met Luca.

Darlene was staying with Matteo for her own protection, but I made sure she promised to call me every afternoon at four. Her calls were supervised for a while by Luca. I giggle to myself, remembering how he thought he was being so stealthy. I knew from day one there was someone else in the room with her. I didn’t know, however, that they would become the most important person to me. The center of my world. The only one who could crush me completely.

Mo meows loudly, diverting my attention.

“Oh yeah? You got something to say, mister?” He just looks at me expectantly, as cats often do. “You’re not getting more treats. You’ve had plenty already.”

Mo doesn’t waver. Neither do I. Then he rubs his soft, furry body against my leg and purrs so sweetly. How could I not give in?

“Fine,” I huff, bending down to scoop Mo up and cuddle with him on the way to the kitchen. His “treats” are really just the star-shaped pieces of kibble from the dog food. He doesn’t seem to like the square pieces or the round ones. Just the stars. What a diva.

“Are you giving Mo more treats?” Luca calls from down the hall.

“Uh…”

“Let me rephrase that,” he says, his voice getting closer until he’s standing in the doorway to the kitchen. “Are you rewarding Mo’s attention-seeking behavior?”

“And so what if I am?” I sass, pouring a few stars out of the plastic baggie we keep them in.

Luca’s arms are around me in the next second, pulling my back into his front as he nuzzles my neck. “Will you reward my attention seeking behavior?” He murmurs into the shell of my ear.

“It would only be fair, I suppose.”

Luca grunts and spins me around, taking my lips in a punishing kiss. I feel his tongue everywhere, tangling with my tongue, lapping at me, lightly teasing the roof of my mouth, making me shiver in his arms.

When we break apart, Luca surprises me with a hug. He tucks my head under his chin and rocks me back and forth.
